Engestofte Manor

On the north-eastern shore of the Maribo Søndersø lies the Engestofte estate with its main building, breeding farm and church. The view from the main building over the lake area is one of the most beautiful in the world because it is completely unspoilt by buildings and other traces of human activity.

A large breeding farm

At the manor, the first thing you see is the large breeding farm, where four independent buildings frame the large courtyard with a water tower in the middle.

History of the manor

The history of the estate goes back a long way. As early as 1231, King Valdemar's land register mentions that the place was in the possession of the crown. Above the fine gate into the square stand IW and VR. It stands for Jørgen Wichfeld and Varinka Rosenkrantz. The Wichfeld family owned Engestofte for almost 350 years until 1967 and led it to become a large and well-run estate.

In 2011, Hans Peter Egeskov and Else Marie Egeskov bought Engestofte and its 482 hectares of farmland from Frederik Lüttichau.
